“I have MS and recently had hip surgery. Due to my MS, I am unable to stand. After my surgery, I could not perform the all-important transfers to get in and out of bed, use the toilet, or transfer from my power scooter to a chairlift. This meant I was confined to bed. Enter physical therapist Michael and occupational therapist Karen. They were fantastic. They worked as a team, even though they came separately so as not to wear me out. When I was sure I would never meet my goals, they assured me that I was improving. They understood my limitations with MS, and when I ‘graduated,’ I was able to perform all the above-mentioned transfers entirely on my own. I will always be grateful to their assistance. —James, a patient from Staten Island
