VNSNY works with community organizations and care providers to offer targeted programs that meet the needs of neighborhoods throughout New York, and to seek out residents who would benefit from these services but might not know help is available or where to turn for assistance.
VNSNY works collaboratively with a wide range of community based organizations (CBOs) including “Aging in Place” Communities (NORCs), housing services providers, social service organizations, senior citizen community centers, and more, to promote health-focused strategies that lead to successful community living. Ultimately, the goal is to empower community residents to take control of their health and wellness.
A skilled team of nurses and rehabilitation therapists support community partners with on-site evidence-based programs, health screenings, health education lectures, health assessments, and healthcare linkages. Together with our community partners, we make a difference in the lives of those we touch through these important community initiatives.

The Chinatown Neighboring Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NNORC) is a 24-block community initiative that helps retirement-age residents in the Chinatown successfully age in place. It accomplishes this by connecting Chinatown residents with VNSNY programs and other community organizations. Since the majority of these residents speak no English, they need special outreach efforts that help them remain safely in their homes and community. The NNORC staff provides NNORC members both in the center and at home with a wide range of services including social and healthcare case management, case assistance, recreational activities, and advocacy activities.
The Chinatown NNORC works closely with VNSNY’s Chinatown Community Center and since its opening in 1999, the Center has served more than 90,000 clients and hosted more than 2,500 health-related community events. Many residents and members drop in regularly at the 7 Mott Street location.
