Special fundraising events are held throughout the year to support the Visiting Nurse Service of New York’s charitable and community benefit programs so that compassionate care can be provided to the most vulnerable and underserved populations who need it most.
Annually, VNSNY hosts two major fundraising events, including the fall VNSNY Benefit Dinner and the spring Golf Classic. Both events are successful ways for VNSNY to build awareness of our mission and help generate contributions from philanthropic organizations and individuals.
The 2019 VNSNY Golf Classic will take place on Monday, May 20th at The Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, NY. Wykagyl, known as one of the country’s premier “classic courses,” was recently named in Golfweek’s 2018 Top 100 classic courses.
The event will raise funds for VNSNY Hospice and Palliative Care’s Veterans Program. This important program combines compassionate care and clinical best practices to provide specialized medical, spiritual and emotional support to address the unique needs of veterans and their families. The funds raised have directly enabled our Veterans Program to hire a second Veterans Hospice Liaison, and we look forward to adding a third in the near future. VNSNY Hospice and Palliative Care’s Veterans Program is proud to have achieved the We Honor Veterans Partner Level Four status.
There are numerous sponsorships available at all price levels, including sponsorships for those that do not play golf but still want to be a visible supporter of this special event. The VNSNY 125th Anniversary Gala, “Enriching Lives: 125 Years and Counting!”, was held on Thursday, November 8th, in the recently renovated Ziegfeld Ballroom. The event raised a record-breaking $1,320,000 in donations, all to support VNSNY’s vital charitable care and community benefit programs. These include a wide range of important safety-net programs such as VNSNY’s Nurse-Family Partnership, Hospice services, and the VNSNY Research Center, amongst others.
The event featured the presentation of the Lillian D. Wald Award to April Anthony, CEO of Homecare Homebase and CEO of Encompass Health – Home Health & Hospice, and to Samuel L. (Tony) Milbank, Chair of the Board of the Milbank Memorial Fund. The award, named after the public health pioneer and founder of VNSNY, is presented each year in recognition of those who have made significant contributions to the health and welfare of others.
The event, which numbered nearly 600 in attendance, also featured an outstanding performance by stand-up comedian, actor, writer and producer Jim Gaffigan, with author, producer and screenwriter Susan Fales-Hill serving as the Master of Ceremonies.
