Special fundraising events are held throughout the year to support the Visiting Nurse Service of New York’s charitable and community benefit programs so that compassionate care can be provided to the most vulnerable and underserved populations who need it most.
Annually, VNSNY hosts two major fundraising events, including the fall VNSNY Benefit Dinner and the spring Golf Classic. Both events are successful ways for VNSNY to build awareness of our mission and help generate contributions from philanthropic organizations and individuals.
That night we will present the Lillian D. Wald Award to Bert E. Brodsky, Founding Chairman & President of Sandata Technologies, and to Kathy Hirata Chin, Senior Counsel of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP. The award, named after the public health pioneer and founder of VNSNY, is presented each year in recognition of those who have made significant contributions to the health and welfare of others.
Proceeds support our Children and Family Services Programs, which provide a widespread range of services to 7,500 children and their families, making it one of the largest programs of its kind in New York.

On Monday, June 12th, the VNSNY 2017 Golf Classic was held at The Apawamis Club in Rye, NY. A sold-out crowd of golfers braved the heat for a day of golf, and an evening of cocktails, auction items, dinner, awards and prizes.
As announced by VNSNY President & CEO Dr. Christopher Olivia, the event raised more than $225,000 for the Veterans Program from VNSNY Hospice and Palliative Care. The dinner proceedings, including all of the many awards and prizes, was hosted by Event Co-Chair, EVP and Chief of Provider Operations Marki Flannery, with help from Honorary Chair and VNSNY Veterans Program Hospice Liaison Joseph Vitti, US Army Retired.
The VNSNY Golf Classic has sold out every year since it began in 2013.
The Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY) 2016 Benefit Dinner, “Together, We Can Make a Difference,” was held on Thursday, November 10, at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. The event raised $900,000 for VNSNY Children & Family Services programs. WABC- TV Meteorologist Amy Freeze served as the evening’s master of ceremonies.
The evening featured the presentation of the Lillian D. Wald Award to VNSNY Emeritus Board Member Alice Cooney Frelinghuysen (known to most as “Nonnie”), and to VNSNY Board Member Corinne H. Rieder, EdD (known to most as “Cory”). Dr. Rieder’s award was accepted on her behalf by her colleague, Dr. Amy Berman. The award, named after the founder of the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, is presented annually to those who have made significant contributions to the health and welfare of others.
Ms. Frelinghuysen, who has served on the VNSNY Board of Directors for 28 years, is the Anthony W. and Lulu C. Wang Curator of American Decorative Arts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Dr. Rieder, a VNSNY Board Member for 11 years, is the former President of The John A. Hartford Foundation.
The event for the first time will be held at The Pierre Hotel on Wednesday, November 1, 2017.
