Rehabilitation therapists provide treatments following surgery, an illness, or an accident. If your home health care nurse determines that you need rehabilitation services, you may see one or more of the following:

• Physical therapists, who help you regain strength, flexibility, coordination, and other aspects of general function.
• Occupational therapists, who help you regain the skills needed to function in daily activities, such as dressing or bathing safely.
• Speech therapists and speech language pathologists, who help you regain their ability to speak or understand speech after an illness, such as a stroke.

Your VNSNY therapist will come to your home to perform a complete evaluation of your needs—and will be able to develop a plan of care that takes into account any unusual features or safety concerns that your home or neighborhood present.

All VNSNY rehabilitation therapists are state-licensed, and many have advanced degrees in their specialty. Each therapist works closely with your physician and your home health care nurse, and each therapist attends on-going, intensive training that is specially designed to address the needs of home health care patients. Many of our rehabilitation therapists are bilingual or multilingual, so we work to match you with a therapist who can explain your care in the language you prefer.

Plus, our therapists carry laptop computers, so they can send and receive information from your doctor and other members of your home care team. This technology gives your therapist information about your medications and treatments, too. And thanks to special security features, you can feel confident that your private information is safe.
