Background
Established in 1993 by the Visiting
Nurse Service of New York, the Center for Home Care Policy
and Research has become recognized as the pre-eminent research
center for home care and is the only of its kind in the nation.
The staff includes a team
of Ph.D.-level researchers trained in health services, aging,
and policy research and a complement of masters-level
graduates in public health, social work, computer sciences,
and related fields.
Members of the staff have held appointments
at the Harvard University School of Public Health; the John
F. Kennedy School of Government; the Agency for Health Care
Policy and Research; the Columbia University Mailman School
of Public Health; and the School of Medicine at the State
University of New York at Stony Brook. Articles written by
staff members appear in peer-reviewed journals, and staff
regularly make presentations at major meetings and conferences.
The Research Centers reputation
for excellence has enabled it to attract major grants from
private philanthropies and government sources.
