VNSNY’s Congregate Care program provides home health care services to elderly and disabled persons residing in congregate (multi-unit housing) settings, such as adult homes, assisted-living facilities, senior citizen housing, and naturally occurring retirement communities. Our nurses provide health information, health education, health care resources and connections to health care services, in order to empower residents so they can maintain good health and avoid hospitalization.
VNSNY programs for neighborhood communities operate throughout our service area.
In December 2006, we opened our first Community Connections TimeBank in the Washington Heights/Inwood sections of Manhattan. Since then, we expanded to the expanded to the Lower East Side, Chinatown, and Battery Park City neighborhoods as well as the Sunset Park and Bay Ridge communities in Brooklyn.
Membership in the TimeBank is free and open to people of all backgrounds, ages and levels of ability. Members earn one "Time Credit" for every hour they contribute helping another member. They can redeem their credits and receive services for themselves. There is a long list of choices for anything from minor home repairs or shopping assistance to computer lessons and so much more.
