Stroke Therapy

Suffering a stroke can be a traumatic experience, but recovering from one shouldn’t be. At VNSNY, we know that recovery may be enhanced when care is provided in the comfort of your own home, and we offer stroke therapy services that can help you or your loved one to function as independently as possible. Our therapists will provide you with the care that can help you return to activities in your home and community.

VNSNY rehabilitation therapists assess each patient individually and recommend the treatment options best suited to your needs. We take into consideration the severity of the stroke, as well as the goals that you and your doctor set for recovery. Your individual plan of stroke therapy may include:

  • Physical therapy, to help you develop strength, balance, and coordination, and the ability to move around your home safely and easily.
  • Occupational therapy, to help you regain skills needed for day-to-day activities.
  • Speech therapy, to help relearn the skills needed for speaking and swallowing, and to aid with memory and comprehension.
  • Recommendations for specific equipment or treatments necessary to meet your needs after stroke.

The ultimate goal of stroke rehabilitation is to restore your ability to function as independently as possible, but VNSNY therapists also understand the emotional toll of a stroke. We help address the frustration and fear that often accompany recovery, and assist you in learning strategies to cope with challenges as you regain mobility and control of your life.

If you require more than one of our rehabilitation services, VNSNY occupational, physical and speech therapists will work closely together to provide the best care possible so that you can be functioning and moving more quickly. We can also integrate rehabilitation therapy into other VNSNY services and programs, such as long-term care or, when necessary, hospice.
