In June 2006, VNSNY Hospice Care opened the Shirley Goodman and Himan Brown Hospice Residence, the first residence of its kind in Manhattan. Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, our Residence provides the full range of hospice services in a safe environment.
The Goodman Brown Hospice Residence offers room for eight people at a time and features private bathrooms, comfortable common areas, and a large outdoor terrace. It's a warm and friendly environment for those who have lived alone and may have no one available to care for them, or for those whose families are unable to provide end-of-life care.
A team of hospice clinicians—including physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, chaplains, and volunteers—support the emotional, spiritual, and physical needs of each patient. Patients may continue to receive care from their personal physicians as well. VNSNY provides housekeeping, meals, medications, supplies, and any medical equipment related to the patient’s hospice diagnosis. The Residence is staffed around the clock by a nurse manager and home health aide, guaranteeing compassionate, professional care at all times. There are no restrictions on visiting, and the Residence welcomes overnight stays by family.
