“My mother-in-law was recently hospitalized for a large blood clot in her left leg. The hospital has sent her home. She has painful bed sores from being in bed so much. She needs help."
Each year, thousands of patients throughout the New York City area are discharged from hospitals with wounds or ulcers that have not completely healed or with new ostomies that will change the patients' lives. However, in some cases, even after months of care, the wounds are slow to heal. In other cases, patients need education on how to manage the wound care of their ostomy so they can continue with their daily lives.
At the Wound and Ostomy Center of Excellence, our goal is to provide the best possible diabetic wound care and open wound care to patients with chronic wounds and ostomies. To that end, we have developed wound care nursing management strategies focused on both patients and caregivers. To ensure the highest standards of care, a VNSNY enterostomal therapy clinical nurse specialist works closely with the patient's VNSNY nurse and consults with the patient's physician to achieve wound healing as quickly and effectively as possible and improved.
Our nurses help increase patient outcomes by:
- Utilizing state-of-the-art treatments
- Employing pain management techniques
- Teaching you and/or your family how to care for your wound/osotomy
This service is available to residents of:
- Bronx
- Brooklyn
