"My father is 76 and lives alone in a house in Queens. He is quite independent, but I think he needs a nurse to help him a few days a week. He has a cardiac history and takes many medications that seem to be confusing to him. What can you offer for him?"
Our Cardiopulmonary Center of Excellence provides the best possible care for heart disease. We have developed heart disease treatment strategies that focus on both the person with heart disease and his or her caregiver. To ensure the highest standards of care, a VNSNY cardiovascular nurse specialist works closely with our nurses who provide the ongoing care and, if needed, with the patient's doctor.
In addition to creating self-care learning guides for patients and caregivers, our cardiovascular nurse specialist keeps our nurses aware of the latest cardiopulmonary patient care standards, including clinical protocols for heart failure, angina, myocardial infarction, pneumonia, asthma, COPD and high blood pressure.
Our nurses help patients learn how to:
- Live their illness and become more capable in self-care
- Adhere to medication regimens
- Adopt a healthier lifestyle, including changes in diet and improved capability in doing daily exercises
This service is available to residents of:
- Bronx
- Brooklyn
