VNSNY has a long tradition of serving the residents of Queens. We're also a part of the fabric of the Queens community -- of our 10,400 employees, over 1,800 live in Queens.
- In 2003, we served more than 24,100 patients in Queens.
- Many of our patients come from 6 hospitals in Queens where we have in-hospital coordinators who arrange for seamless transfers of inpatient care to home care. In addition, our patients are referred to us by their physicians. In 2003, physicians referred over 3,900 patients directly to VNSNY.
- While more than half of the patients we see in Queens are over the age of 65, the rest are young adults and children.
- The majority -- 65% -- of our patients in Queens are female.
- Our presence in Queens is especially important because 29% of our adult patients live alone and 14% have no caregiver.
- In 2003, over 11% of our patients in Queens were Spanish speaking; 4% were Russian speaking.
