While VNSNY has only been serving Nassau County for the past 4 years, we're still very much a part of the fabric of the Nassau County community. Of our 10,400 employees, over 640 live on Long Island.
- In 2003, VNS served more than 3,300 patients in Nassau County.
- Many of our patients come from 2 hospitals in Nassau County where we have an in-hospital coordinator who arranges for seamless transfers of inpatient care to home care. In addition, our patients are also referred to us by their physicians. In 2003, physicians referred over 490 patients directly to VNSNY.
- While more than half of the patients we see in Nassau County are over 65 years old, the rest are young adults and children.
- The majority -- 59% -- of our Nassau County patients are female.
- Our presence in Nassau County is especially important because 20% of our adult patients live alone and 12% have no caretakers.
