VNSNY has a long tradition of serving the residents of Manhattan. We're also a part of the fabric of the Manhattan community. Of our 10,400 employees, over 1,300 live in Manhattan.
- In 2003, we served more than 32,400 patients in Manhattan.
- Many of our patients come from 13 hospitals in the Manhattan where we have in-hospital coordinators who arrange for seamless transfers of inpatient care to home care. In addition, our patients are referred to us by their physicians. In 2003, physicians referred over 4,400 patients directly to VNSNY.
- While more than half of the patients we see in Manhattan are over the age of 65, the rest are young adults and children.
- The majority -- 65% -- of our patients in Manhattan are female.
- Our presence in Manhattan is especially important because 43% of our adult patients live alone and 23% have no caregiver.
