Where Your Donation Goes

The Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY) is a private, not-for-profit charitable organization certified under section 501 (c) (3) of the IRS code. For more than 100 years, our mission has been to improve the health of all in our community. Generous support from people like you allows VNSNY to provide services such as:

Home Health Care - Your gift helps us provide Gold Standard home health care to those who need care but lack the ability to pay. These are people young and old, with all types of needs, including short-term and long-term care. In 2003, we provided direct care to 5,000 uninsured and underinsured New Yorkers who needed care and had nowhere else to turn.

End of Life Care - Your donation helps bring the expertise of our Hospice Care team to people who wish to spend their last weeks and months at home, in familiar surroundings, with their loved ones. In 2003, we delivered hospice care to over 1,475 people in the community, and provided palliative care services to another 263. VNSNY Hospice Care provides bereavement counseling to family members for 13 months after a patient's death-long after any type of payment ceases.

Care for Children - Your gift helps provides care to chronically ill and severely disabled children, allowing children to remain in their homes with their families. Some 7,000 children and their families received our skilled nursing care, rehabilitation therapy, social work, home health aide services, support groups and family counseling last year. Our nurses teach children with diabetes and asthma how to manage their illness and avoid emergency room visits. Our respite nurses give parents with chronically ill or severely disabled children a much-needed break from caregiving. Our social workers counsel families and help link them to resources within their community. Our Early Steps Family Center in Rockaway, Queens works with teens families, and in particular, fathers, to develop relationships. Our parent advocates-who have ill or disabled children of their own-offer advice to parents who also have ill or disabled children.

Public Health Services - Your gift helps provide public health programs such as flu shots and blood pressure and cholesterol screenings to senior citizens and underserved populations. Each year VNSNY teams up with the NYC Departments of Health and Aging to provide free flu shots to senior New Yorkers. Our nurses vaccinated over 30,000 seniors last fall.

Donations to VNSNY enable us to provide approximately $18 million dollars in charitable care each year, as well as funding the ongoing training of our nurses and other health professionals to ensure their continued excellence. Your donation also helps us develop new programs that improve the health of all in our community. Thank you.
