Hospice care instills hope. This comprehensive approach to the physical, social, psychiatric and spiritual needs of people living with a terminal illness and their families is widely available in the rest of the country. But only 9% of terminally ill New Yorkers spend their final days under hospice care.
We aim to dramatically improve access to hospice care, providing comfort, choice, and support to NYC residents who need hospice care. This year we delivered end-of-life care to 1,479 people in the community, and provided palliative care services to another 263. For the patient, we provide devotional and spiritual support and the highest quality in-home medical care. For the family, we offered counseling and bereavement support.the hospice staff benefited from our investment this year in an innovativepoint-of-care hospice information system.
