Maureen McGovern Sings to Benefit VNSNY Hospice
On Monday, April 30th, Visiting Nurse Service of New York Hospice Care presented “Maureen McGovern in Concert: An Evening of Song to Benefit VNSNY Hospice Care.” The event was co-chaired by Gayle Perkins Atkins and Charles N. Atkins, Beatrice and Douglas Broadwater and Mary and Maxwell Davidson.
Ms. McGovern, dubbed “The Stradivarius Voice” during her 35-year Grammy-winning career, wowed an enthusiastic crowd of almost 200 with her renditions from the great American songbook. The event, held at The Supper Club in New York City’s theater district, raised funds for the VNSNY Hospice Care program, which promotes choice, comfort and quality of life for people facing a life-limiting illness. In addition to her stellar performing career, Ms. McGovern is founder of the “Works of Heart Foundation for Music and Healing,” which addresses the emotional and inspirational needs of patients and caregivers.
Following the concert, Ms. McGovern mingled with the crowd at a champagne and dessert reception. Her personal charm, warmth and caring made the evening a wonderful night of song, entertainment and celebration for VNSNY Hospice Care. The evening’s proceeds will help maintain hospice’s expert care aimed at relief of physical pain, emotional distress and spiritual suffering.
