Visiting Nurse Service of New York Seeks Hospice Volunteers
The role of the hospice volunteer is to be a supportive presence to the patient, caregiver and family. Our goal is to provide comfort, care and choice to our patients and their families during this difficult time in their lives. Some of the ways that volunteers support patients and families include:
- visiting with a patient to ease social isolation
- calling caregivers and families to offer emotional support
- reading together
- listening to music
- knitting together
- helping patients write memoirs
The volunteer schedule is flexible as most of our volunteers are working professionals and visit patients in the evening or weekends. All volunteers are placed with patients as close to their home or work as possible and can work in Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Manhattan.
The Next Hospice Volunteer Training is:
Date: Every Thursday evening in April, 3, 10, 17 & 24 and May 1st
Time: 6-8pm.
Location: 1250 Broadway, 7th Floor
Attendance at all five evenings is required, no exceptions.
