The major objective of this project was to show how the effectiveness of formal home care services can be extended through the systematic introduction of low-cost adaptive equipment. This research and demonstration project systematically encouraged use of low-cost adaptive equipment among elderly home care clients to increase their independence in personal care and household management. The project was carried out collaboratively between the Gerontology Institute of the University of Massachusetts Boston and the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs. The demonstration took place at two homecare-coordinating agencies, and client interviews were conducted through the Center for Survey Research at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
