Hospice Volunteer Opportunities

At VNSNY Hospice Care, our mission is to provide compassionate and skilled care to terminally ill patients and their families. To help us successfully achieve this goal, the support of our hospice volunteers is key. As a volunteer with VNSNY Hospice Care, you can help serve terminally ill patients and their families directly by:

  • Provide companionship in the home or nursing home
  • Call newly admitted patients and making bereavement calls
  • Assist with office activities in Manhattan, Bronx, Queens & Brooklyn
  • Contribute to the newsletter and helping organize events
  • Make holiday outreach calls to patients
  • Help with fundraising
  • Help patients and their families create a personal website as an online resource for family and friends
  • Give haircuts, manicures and massage

Volunteers are the heart of hospice. They provide that extra level of care and comfort that makes all the difference to patients and families. Hospice volunteering is uniquely challenging and rewarding work. To visit with patients, potential voluntees must attend a twelve hour training. We offer trainings on weeknights and weekends to accommodate a variety of schedules.

A phone interview and pre-registration are required and help prospective volunteers understand the requirements for hospice volunteering. To get started, check out the training schedule and contact your borough's Volunteer Manager.
