On Thursday, November 11, 2010, more than 600 friends and supporters of the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY) gathered at the Waldorf=Astoria for the 2010 VNSNY Benefit, “Investing in Children, Strengthening Families.” Garnering $1.2 million in donations, the event set a new VNSNY record. All proceeds will go toward the VNSNY Children and Family Services program, which serves 10,000 children and families each year, and is one of the largest programs of its kind in New York.
The highlight of the evening was a presentation of the Lillian D. Wald Award. Named after the public health pioneer and founder of VNSNY, this award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the health and welfare of others. This year’s recipients included VNSNY Board Member Attallah Kappas, MD, Sherman Fairchild Professor and Physician-in-Chief Emeritus at The Rockefeller University, and Mark Wagar, President & CEO of Empire BlueCross BlueShield. Writer and television producer Susan Fales-Hill served as the gala’s Master of Ceremonies.
