On Thursday, November 10, nearly 700 friends and supporters of the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY) gathered at the Waldorf = Astoria Hotel for the 2011 VNSNY benefit "Investing in Children, Strengthening Families." The evening featured the presentation of the Lillian D. Wald Award to VNSNY Board Member Robert M. Kaufman, Esq., a Partner at Proskauer Rose LLP, and David B. Snow, Jr., Chairman & CEO of Medco Health Solutions, Inc. The award, named after the public health pioneer and founder of VNSNY, is presented in recognition of individuals who have made significant contributions to the health and welfare of others. Writer and television producer Susan Fales-Hill kept the proceedings moving along as emcee with her fast-paced humor and energy.
The evening raised a record $1.26 million for our Children and Family Services programs, which provide direct care and specialized support services to almost 10,000 children and their families, making it one of the largest and most innovative providers of home- and community-based services to children and families in the New York metropolitan area.
In addition to the heartfelt remarks of both award recipients, the evening also featured a thank you to Carol Raphael, who is stepping down as President and CEO of VNSNY after 22 years.
