Jane Brody Lecture Draws Crowd

On Monday, June 8, the Visiting Nurse Service of New York held the second event in its Amazing Lives lecture series. A sold-out crowd of nearly 150 people, made up of VNSNY donors, patients and friends, gathered on the Upper East Side to hear New York Times health columnist and author Jane Brody. Brody, the author of several best-selling books, has appeared on hundreds of radio and television programs, written scores of magazine articles and won many prestigious awards for journalistic excellence.

The evening began with a reception, followed by a welcome from VNSNY President & CEO Carol Raphael. Then, Ms. Brody spoke about her latest book, Jane Brody’s Guide to the Great Beyond: A Practical Primer to Help You and Your Loved Ones Prepare Medically, Legally and Emotionally for the End of Life, a comprehensive guide that answers virtually every question about the transition between life and the hereafter.

She spoke of the many reasons she wrote the book, and read two excerpts from its pages. Without a doubt, the energetic and feisty Brody was a favorite writer of many in the crowd.

The book’s subject then sparked a lively question and answer session, where Ms. Brody, Carol Raphael, and Jeanne Dennis, VP for VNSNY Hospice Care, answered the many questions and concerns of a very engaged audience. Following the Q&A, Ms. Brody graciously signed copies of her latest book.
