To reward decency, caring and concern about the community. To provide people a mechanism to use their skills, share their passions and lend a helping hand. To create networks of support in which strangers become neighbors, neighbors become friends and friends become extended family.
The Community Connections TimeBank was launched in December 2006. The TimeBank is sponsored by the Visiting Nurse Service of New York through the Community Benefit Program.
The TimeBank is fortunate to have two staff members who are pioneers in the TimeBank movement, with combined experience of more than 45 years. Our staff members are passionate about TimeBanking and almost all are native Spanish and Chinese speakers.
We are grateful to all of our supporters for their recognition of the TimeBank’s achievements and their support. See the list of our funders and awards.
Current neighborhoods include Washington Heights, Inwood, the Lower East Side, Chinatown, Battery Park City, and Sunset Park and Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. We welcome members from all neighborhoods, but keep in mind, TimeBanking works best when members can trade easily with one another.
In addition to one-on-one exchanges, TimeBank members earn credits for attending monthly potluck dinners and participate in a wide variety of classes, groups and workshops led by other members; including computer, language, handicrafts, Tai Chi, art, belly dancing, walking clubs and so much more.
